The route

Four destinations, one ride

You stay on the boat the whole way. About one hour. This is the loop we run most days.

Mangrove Forest — part of the Saailors Voyage loop.

Stop 01 · Nature

Mangrove Forest

Cruise the Thengaithittu estuary through a living tunnel of mangrove trees.

This is the stretch most guests come for. The boat slips into a narrow creek where the canopy closes overhead and the water goes still. You stay seated — the trees do the work.

Part of the 1 hour loop · you stay on the boat

  • A living tunnel of mangrove trees on the Thengaithittu estuary
  • Shaded, calm water — the coolest part of the loop
  • Birds and crab-rich roots if you look along the banks
  • The photo stop most first-timers remember

Arikamedu — part of the Saailors Voyage loop.

Stop 02 · History

Arikamedu

See Pondicherry’s ancient port from the water — a quiet brush with history.

Arikamedu sits on the bank as you pass — an old Indo-Roman port you read about from the road, but see properly from the river. We do not leave the boat. The ruins stay on the shore; you get the view and a short story from the crew.

Part of the 1 hour loop · you stay on the boat

  • Ancient port landscape along the Ariyankuppam river
  • Seen from the water — no extra walk, no extra ticket
  • A short history note from the crew as you pass
  • Brick and laterite against green banks

Fishing Harbour — part of the Saailors Voyage loop.

Stop 03 · Working coast

Fishing Harbour

Pass working boats, nets, and the rhythm of a real coastal harbour.

The harbour is not a set. You pass working boats, nets, and the day’s catch being handled on the quay. It is noisy, useful, and very Pondicherry — a contrast after the quiet mangrove stretch.

Part of the 1 hour loop · you stay on the boat

  • Colourful fishing boats and trawlers from the water
  • Nets, ice, and the working quay — not a staged village
  • A change of light and sound after the mangrove creek
  • Good for guests who want the coast, not only the forest

River Mouth — part of the Saailors Voyage loop.

Stop 04 · Open water

River Mouth

Watch the backwaters meet the Bay of Bengal — best in morning or golden hour.

The creek opens and the river meets the sea. More breeze, more sky, and the last stretch of the hour. Morning and late afternoon are the quietest; the light sits on the water instead of overhead.

Part of the 1 hour loop · you stay on the boat

  • Where the backwaters meet the Bay of Bengal
  • Open water and a wider horizon after the tunnels
  • Best in early light or the last slot of the day
  • The turn before the boat heads back
